Second Milgem-class corvette marks a major step in Pakistan’s naval modernisation strategy
Pakistan has inducted the advanced warship PNS Khaibar into its naval fleet, marking a key milestone in efforts to modernize maritime defense capabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Naval Staff, said the addition of PNS Khaibar strengthens the Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness. He described the vessel as a critical asset equipped with modern combat systems and advanced technologies.
PNS Khaibar is the second Milgem-class corvette acquired under a defense collaboration program with Türkiye. Built by Turkish defense firm ASFAT, the ship is part of a four-corvette agreement, with additional vessels expected in the coming years.
The naval chief emphasized that platforms like Khaibar, along with upcoming Hangor-class submarines, will significantly enhance Pakistan’s ability to counter maritime threats and secure vital sea routes.
The induction comes amid ongoing regional security challenges and follows recent joint naval exercises with allied countries. Officials say the move reflects Pakistan’s continued focus on strengthening both surface and undersea warfare capabilities.
