Security forces restore order in Rawalakot after intense armed clashes and a brief siege of CMH hospital.
A major security operation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir has restored calm in Rawalakot after violent clashes and a brief but intense siege of CMH Rawalakot, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to police authorities, armed individuals opened fire on law enforcement personnel on June 7 before attempting to block access to the military hospital, disrupting medical services and triggering panic in the surrounding area. The confrontation escalated into arson attacks and widespread damage to both public and private property.
Security forces responded with a targeted operation overnight between June 7 and early June 8, which officials described as restrained and precision-based to avoid civilian harm. Authorities later confirmed that the siege had been fully lifted and hospital services had resumed normally.
Police stated that since June 6, four security personnel including three from AJK Police and one from the Frontier Constabulary—lost their lives in firing incidents, while several others were injured. Officials also reported casualties among individuals linked to the unrest.
Following the operation, authorities said armed elements were dispersed and normal life has largely returned, with roads reopened and commercial activity resuming.
Law enforcement agencies have vowed continued action against those involved, while urging citizens to avoid any association with banned groups and rely only on verified official updates as investigations continue.
