Pakistan’s Motorway Police has announced stricter safety measures on national highways and motorways, making fire extinguishers mandatory for all vehicles, particularly passenger transport and freight carriers. The decision comes as part of enhanced efforts to improve road safety and minimize fire-related risks during traffic accidents.
According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, special preventive measures have been introduced to protect motorists from potential vehicle fires. A nationwide fire safety awareness campaign has also been launched and will continue until June 24, educating drivers about the importance of maintaining functional fire extinguishers inside their vehicles.
Officials emphasized that the presence of an active and valid fire extinguisher is essential for safeguarding lives and property during emergencies. Drivers have been urged to inspect both the functionality and expiry date of their extinguishers before starting any journey.
The spokesperson warned that expired or non-functional fire extinguishers will not be accepted during inspections. Authorities will conduct checks to ensure compliance with the new safety requirements.
After June 24, strict legal action will be taken against vehicles operating without fire extinguishers. In addition, freight and public service vehicles lacking the required safety equipment will not be allowed to enter national highways and motorways.
