Punjab’s Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme has disbursed more than 166,000 interest-free loans, completed over 105,000 homes, and continues expanding affordable housing opportunities across the province.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing programme has reached a significant milestone, with more than 166,000 interest-free loans distributed to help low-income families construct their own homes across Punjab.
According to official figures, the government has released more than Rs215.76 billion for housing construction under the initiative. The programme has already facilitated the completion of 105,594 homes, allowing thousands of deserving families to move into permanent residences and improve their living conditions.
Housing development continues at a rapid pace, with 28,453 homes currently under construction, while work on another 32,048 houses is expected to begin soon. Authorities also reported encouraging financial sustainability, with over Rs14.5 billion in loan repayments successfully recovered.
Public response to the scheme has remained exceptionally strong. The programme has received 1,211,954 applications, making it one of Pakistan’s largest interest-free, low-cost housing finance initiatives designed to expand homeownership among economically disadvantaged families.
Official data shows that 91,434 men, 14,007 women, and 23 transgender beneficiaries have successfully completed the construction of their homes through the programme, reflecting its inclusive approach to affordable housing.
The initiative has delivered substantial results across both rural and urban Punjab. A total of 60,139 homes have been completed in rural communities, while 45,325 houses have been built in urban areas, increasing access to safe and affordable housing throughout the province.
