Mufti Abdul Qavi’s remarks during a recent podcast have gone viral, prompting mixed reactions as social media users debate his comments and the decision to give him another public platform.
Pakistani religious scholar Mufti Abdul Qavi has once again found himself at the center of public attention after making controversial remarks during a recent podcast appearance that quickly went viral across social media.
During an interview hosted by Fariha Farrukh, Mufti Abdul Qavi was asked whether he considered himself a “tharki,” a colloquial Urdu term commonly used to describe someone who openly flirts or expresses strong romantic interest. Instead of rejecting the label, he accepted it several times and explained that he views himself as an open-minded person who appreciates beauty and openly compliments others.
Explaining his perspective, Qavi said he believes there is nothing wrong with acknowledging positive qualities in people. Referring to his first meeting with the podcast host, he said he immediately noticed and appreciated several of her qualities, describing such openness as part of his personality.
The interview clip spread rapidly across social media, generating thousands of reactions and reigniting debate over his public image.
Many users criticized the podcast for inviting Mufti Abdul Qavi, arguing that offering him a platform fuels sensationalism rather than meaningful discussion. Others said his remarks were inappropriate for a religious figure and did not reflect the restraint expected from someone associated with religious scholarship.
However, some users defended his honesty, saying they respected his willingness to openly acknowledge his personality rather than presenting a different public image.
