Punjab government announces a wide-ranging education reform programme featuring modern schools, AI laboratories, free electric bikes, laptops, scholarships, and major infrastructure upgrades.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a comprehensive education reform programme aimed at modernising public schools and expanding opportunities for students across the province. Speaking at a ceremony in Arifwala, she said the government will establish Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence in every tehsil to ensure students receive high-quality education regardless of their financial background.
As part of the initiative, the provincial government will distribute 100,000 free electric bikes to students to improve access to educational institutions. It will also provide 100,000 laptops to deserving students and award 50,000 merit-based scholarships to encourage academic excellence and reduce financial barriers to higher education.
Maryam said Rs40 billion has been allocated to upgrade government school infrastructure, including new classrooms, furniture, clean drinking water, improved washrooms, better electricity, ventilation, and other essential facilities. Schools will also receive modern science, mathematics, computer, and information technology laboratories, while artificial intelligence labs will be introduced in government schools for the first time.
Encouraging students to prepare for future careers, the chief minister urged them to study artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics, saying digital skills will play a vital role in tomorrow’s job market.
She also announced plans to establish 300 modern schools across Punjab, adding that admissions to the Nawaz Sharif Schools of Eminence have attracted significant public interest. Stressing student safety during the monsoon season, Maryam advised parents to remain vigilant following recent roof collapse incidents. She further confirmed the expansion of green electric bus services to provide students with safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation.
