Security forces say the operations were launched following recent terrorist attacks in Bannu, including a vehicle-borne suicide bombing targeting law enforcement personnel and civilians.
Pakistan’s security forces have killed 24 suspected militants during a series of joint intelligence-based operations in Bannu district and adjoining areas, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were launched after a recent surge in terrorist attacks against police and the vehicle-borne suicide bombing in Bannu that targeted law enforcement agencies and civilians.
The military said intense exchanges of fire took place over the past 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of 24 militants. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from those killed, who, according to the statement, were allegedly involved in multiple terrorist activities and attacks on innocent civilians.
ISPR said security forces will continue operations across the area to apprehend those responsible for what it described as “heinous and cowardly” attacks and dismantle their support networks.
The military added that Pakistan’s counterterrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy, approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan, will continue in coordination with law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism and strengthen national security.
