Pakistan’s maritime minister says ongoing reforms in ports, logistics and trade facilitation are designed to position the country as a regional gateway for commerce and industrial growth.
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has invited Chinese investors to expand their presence in Pakistan’s maritime, ports and logistics sectors, saying the government is implementing wide-ranging reforms to transform the country into a regional hub for transit trade, logistics and industry.
Addressing the Regional Transit Trade Hub Initiative in Beijing, the minister said the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China has entered a new phase focused on connectivity, trade facilitation, logistics, industrial development and sustainable economic growth.
He said global trade is rapidly evolving through digitalization, smart logistics, stronger supply chains, green shipping and multimodal transportation. According to the minister, regional cooperation and modern strategies are essential for countries seeking to capitalize on these emerging trends and remain competitive in international markets.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strategic location, Chaudhry said the country serves as a natural gateway linking South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and beyond. He noted that strengthening maritime infrastructure and improving logistics networks would enhance Pakistan’s role in regional and global trade while creating new opportunities for businesses and investors.
The minister emphasized that the government’s reform agenda is aimed at improving the efficiency of ports, simplifying trade procedures and attracting foreign investment to modernize the maritime sector. He encouraged Chinese companies to explore long-term investment opportunities in Pakistan’s ports, logistics services and related industries.
Pakistan and China have continued to deepen economic cooperation through infrastructure and connectivity initiatives, with maritime development remaining a key pillar of broader bilateral trade and investment efforts. Officials believe that greater collaboration in logistics and port modernization could improve regional connectivity and support sustainable economic growth.
