PDMA says monsoon rains have significantly increased river flows, with high flood conditions continuing at several locations along the Chenab River while authorities closely monitor the evolving situation.
Punjab: Water levels in several of Punjab’s major rivers have risen following ongoing monsoon rainfall, with high flood conditions continuing at key points along the Chenab River, according to the latest update from the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The disaster management agency said varying levels of flooding from low to high are currently being observed across different river sections as seasonal rains continue to increase water inflows.
According to the PDMA, the Indus River is experiencing low-level flooding at both Tarbela and Chashma. Water discharge was recorded at 336,000 cusecs at Tarbela and 302,000 cusecs at Chashma.
The most significant rise has been reported in the Chenab River, where water flow has increased substantially at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad. Authorities recorded 195,000 cusecs at Marala, 262,000 cusecs at Khanki, and 245,000 cusecs at Qadirabad. High flood conditions remain in place at all three locations.
Meanwhile, the PDMA said water flow in the Sutlej and Jhelum rivers remains within normal limits. On the Ravi River, approximately 73,000 cusecs of water is passing through Balloki, while conditions at Jassar, Shahdara, and Head Sidhnai remain normal.
