Punjab will initially recruit 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, including 21 military personnel, while contracts for about 150,000 teaching interns are also proposed for extension.
LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of military personnel to monitor educational institutions across the province, with the hiring process already underway.
According to the recruitment plan, military personnel will be appointed as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) in 22 districts of Punjab. The appointments will initially be made on one-year contracts, with the possibility of extension after the initial term.
Selected officers will receive a monthly salary of Rs60,000, along with facilities and benefits applicable under the rules of the Punjab Education Department. The government will also provide official motorcycles to enable officers to visit educational institutions as part of their monitoring duties.
The recruitment will be conducted under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). Applications have been invited from eligible GCOs and NCOs until Sept. 7.
Applicants must be between 30 and 55 years old, hold at least a bachelor’s degree and have a Punjab domicile. Candidates are also required to have experience in the IT sector and meet physical fitness and health requirements.
In the first phase, 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be recruited. Of these, 21 positions will be allocated to military personnel, while seven will be offered to civilians. Separate recruitment drives for other districts are planned during the second phase.
The monitoring officers will be responsible for visiting educational institutions, overseeing their performance and supporting efforts to strengthen monitoring and administration across the education sector.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Department has also moved to extend the contracts of about 150,000 School Teaching Interns (STIs) currently working on a temporary daily-wage basis in schools across the province.
The department has prepared a summary seeking approval for a nine-month extension of the interns’ contracts, which are due to expire. The proposal has been sent to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for approval.
If approved, the contracts will be extended until March 2027, covering the ongoing academic session. An official notification will be issued after the chief minister grants approval.
The two measures come as the Punjab government seeks to strengthen oversight and improve the administration and functioning of educational institutions across the province.
