ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has said the changes made to the national team after the Lord’s Test came as a surprise to him, claiming he was not informed or consulted before the decisions were implemented.
Babar said the changes were made without his knowledge, consultation or approval. He added that he learned about the developments through an official statement issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The captain’s remarks raise questions about the extent of the captain’s involvement in decisions concerning the Test squad, particularly when changes are made following a match.
Babar, however, did not criticize the board’s decision and said the PCB must have taken the steps after careful consideration.
His comments indicate that the changes were not discussed with him before the board formally announced them.
The development comes after the Lord’s Test, with changes subsequently made to the Pakistan team. Babar’s statement suggests that the PCB handled the decision-making process independently rather than seeking his input beforehand.
