CHICAGO: Former Pakistan all-rounder Anwar Ali has been appointed head coach of Kingsmen Chicago in the United States’ Minor League Cricket, beginning a new chapter in his cricket career.
The 38-year-old former Pakistan international has joined the Chicago-based franchise ahead of the upcoming season, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 17.
Kingsmen Chicago confirmed Anwar’s appointment as the team prepares for the new campaign. The coaching role marks his first major step into coaching after a career that included international, domestic and T20 cricket.
Anwar represented Pakistan in both one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals. A seam-bowling all-rounder, he was known for his pace bowling and ability to contribute with the bat in limited-overs cricket.
He played 22 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Pakistan during his international career. His experience in competitive limited-overs cricket is expected to provide valuable knowledge as he begins working with players in the developing American cricket environment.
Anwar’s playing career also included appearances in Pakistan’s domestic cricket structure and various T20 competitions. His new role will allow him to use that experience to help emerging players develop their skills, particularly in the fast-paced T20 format.
