DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry says Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security is unconditional and outlines the collective response mechanism under the Makkah Defence Agreement.
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will go to any extent to defend Saudi Arabia, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to the kingdom’s security.
In an interview with an Arab television channel, Chaudhry said Pakistan stood firmly with Saudi Arabia and was present there to help protect the two holy mosques.
He described Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security as unconditional and said the relationship between the people, armed forces and political leadership of the two countries was a historic and enduring bond.
“Pakistan will continue to defend Saudi Arabia and will go to any extent for its defence,” he said.
The DG ISPR also discussed the possible response if any member of the Makkah Defence Agreement came under attack. He said the mechanism for implementing the defence commitments had not been made public.
Chaudhry explained that if any of the three countries Pakistan, Saudi Arabia or Turkiye faced an attack, the three countries would jointly determine the appropriate course of action. The response would then be implemented according to the decision agreed upon by all three parties.
He said the Makkah Defence Agreement was defensive in nature and aimed at promoting regional stability and peace.
The agreement’s implementation details, particularly those relating to military operations and security matters, would remain confidential, Chaudhry said.
Responding to questions about how the agreement would work in the event of an attack, he reiterated that any response would be decided collectively by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
He also said there were no objections to the Makkah Defence Agreement, stressing that its stated purpose was to strengthen defence cooperation and contribute to regional peace and stability.
Chaudhry further noted that several other defence agreements between countries also contained assurances of mutual support, while specific operational and security arrangements were not publicly disclosed.
