Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam discussed bilateral cooperation, regional developments and Lebanon’s sovereignty during their meeting in New York.
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in New York on Sept. 24 on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, discussing bilateral ties and developments in the Middle East.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed Pakistan-Lebanon relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the longstanding and fraternal ties between the two countries.
They also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East and the broader regional situation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, political independence, unity and territorial integrity.
He called for an immediate end to hostilities, strict adherence to cease-fire arrangements, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territories and full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The two leaders also discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in several areas, including high-level contacts, trade and investment, defense and institutional cooperation.
Shehbaz and Salam reaffirmed their ongoing cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
The meeting took place as world leaders gathered in New York for the annual UN General Assembly session, which provides a platform for discussions on international and regional issues as well as bilateral relations.
