Residents of Lower South Waziristan have urged authorities to inspect CCTV cameras at Wana DHQ Hospital and investigate reported theft and vandalism incidents.

LOWER SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Residents have called for an impartial investigation into reports that CCTV cameras at District Headquarters Hospital Wana have allegedly remained nonfunctional for nearly a year, raising concerns about security and administrative oversight at the public healthcare facility.

According to complaints received from the area, the alleged failure of surveillance cameras has coincided with incidents of theft in different hospital wards and vandalism in other sections of the facility. The situation has prompted questions about security arrangements and the effectiveness of administrative monitoring at the hospital.

However, the Medical Emergency Resilience Foundation (MERF) administration has reportedly maintained that the security cameras are operational. The conflicting claims by hospital management and local residents have intensified demands for a transparent assessment of the actual situation.

Residents of Lower South Waziristan have urged District Health Officer Dr. Adnan Rashid Dawar, District Police Officer Hassan Khan, the assistant commissioner of Wana and Deputy Commissioner Musarrat Zaman to take immediate notice of the complaints.

They have called on the authorities to conduct a practical inspection of all CCTV cameras installed across the hospital to establish whether the surveillance system is functioning properly.

The residents have also demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged nonfunctioning of the cameras over the past year and the reported incidents of theft and vandalism during that period.

They further urged the relevant authorities to ensure the immediate restoration of any cameras found to be out of order and identify those responsible for any negligence or failure to maintain the security system. They said appropriate action should be taken against anyone found responsible in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.

The issue has raised broader concerns about the safety of patients, their attendants and healthcare workers who visit or work at the hospital.

Residents said District Headquarters Hospital Wana is a public institution and a national asset, making it the responsibility of the relevant authorities and hospital administration to ensure effective security arrangements and proper oversight.

They stressed that the matter should not be overlooked and called for timely intervention, a transparent investigation and practical measures to address the reported security shortcomings.

The residents said restoring confidence in the hospital’s security arrangements requires authorities to establish the actual condition of the surveillance system and ensure that any identified lapses are addressed.
