Unknown assailants torch Rescue 1122 ambulance in Bahadar Khel area; two emergency workers wounded in the attack
KARAK: Unidentified individuals set fire to a Rescue 1122 ambulance in the Bahadar Khel area of Karak district in northwestern Pakistan, injuring two emergency workers, officials said.
The attack targeted a vehicle belonging to Rescue 1122, a state-run emergency service widely recognized for responding to accidents, disasters and medical emergencies across the country. Authorities said the ambulance was severely damaged after being torched, while two staff members sustained injuries during the incident.
Local officials condemned the assault, describing it as an attack not only on a public service institution but also on humanitarian values. Rescue 1122 personnel routinely risk their lives to provide medical aid and disaster response services without discrimination.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
The wounded workers were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Colleagues and residents expressed solidarity with the injured responders, praising their dedication and vowing that emergency services would continue despite the attack.
