The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has appointed Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed as the new commander of the Air Force Strategic Command (AFSC), marking a significant leadership development within the force. A two-star officer, Aurangzeb Ahmed previously served as Director General Public Relations (DGPR) and currently holds the position of Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations).
Commissioned in the General Duty (GD) pilot branch in 1992, he has built an extensive operational and strategic career. He has commanded a fighter squadron and an operational air base, and also served in Saudi Arabia as Contingent Commander of a Pakistan Aeronautical Complex team. At Air Headquarters, he worked as Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operations Requirements and Development) and later as Director General, Warfare and Strategy.
Academically, he holds a master’s degree in Military Arts from China and another in National Security and War Studies from Pakistan’s National Defence University. Fluent in Mandarin, he has represented Pakistan in various international assignments.
He gained national prominence during the 2025 India–Pakistan tensions through high-profile press briefings. His military decorations include the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, and Sitara-e-Basalat.
