China has stepped in diplomatically to help ease the growing tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, urging both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to a statement from the Afghan Foreign Ministry, China’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, visited Kabul and held talks with the Taliban government’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation and the worsening security situation in the region.
During the discussions, the Chinese envoy stressed the importance of resolving tensions between the two neighbouring countries through peaceful dialogue. He said Beijing remains in contact with both Islamabad and Kabul and is actively working to help reduce hostilities.
Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have sharply deteriorated in recent days, with reports of cross-border firing and military operations. Pakistani officials say the strikes target militant groups, particularly the banned Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan, which Islamabad accuses of launching attacks from Afghan territory.
However, Afghan authorities deny allowing such groups to operate within their borders and accuse Pakistan of violating Afghan sovereignty through military strikes.
China, which maintains close ties with both nations, has expressed concern that prolonged tensions could threaten regional stability and economic cooperation initiatives.
