India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, securing their third T20 World Cup title.
The final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting first, India posted a massive total of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs.
Indian batters delivered an explosive performance, led by Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs from 46 balls. Ishan Kishan added a quick 54 off 24 balls, while Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 from just 21 deliveries. Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 26 runs from eight balls.
For New Zealand, James Neesham took three wickets while Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra claimed one wicket each.
Chasing the huge target of 256 runs, New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs. Tim Seifert scored 52 and captain Mitchell Santner made 43.
India’s bowlers dominated, with Jasprit Bumrah taking four wickets and Axar Patel claiming three. India also became the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title.
