Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has been signed in the player auction for the The Hundred 2026 season, creating a strong reaction on social media. The franchise Sunrisers Leeds bought the Pakistani star for £190,000, which is approximately 71.2 million Pakistani rupees.
The team is owned by Kavya Maran, who is also associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. Her decision to sign a Pakistani player has sparked debate among some Indian social media users.
Before the auction, there were circulating rumors that Indian-linked franchises participating in The Hundred might avoid selecting Pakistani players. However, Sunrisers Leeds proved those claims wrong by securing Abrar Ahmed in the draft.
Another Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq was also selected during the auction. He was picked by Birmingham Phoenix for £140,000, which equals around 53.2 million Pakistani rupees.
Several Pakistani players had registered for The Hundred draft this year, but so far only two have been selected. The inclusion of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq highlights the growing demand for Pakistani spin talent in international franchise leagues.
