Over the past few decades, the United States has developed some of the most advanced and powerful weapons in human history, many of which are now reportedly being used in the ongoing conflict with Iran. According to an international journal the US is testing several of its military systems for the first time during the current confrontation.
Since the launch of Operation Epic Fury on February 28, the United States has deployed billions of dollars’ worth of weapons aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities. These weapons include drones, torpedoes, long-range missiles, and advanced fighter aircraft such as the F-35.
Reports indicate that the US is using Locus drones in the conflict, which are capable of striking targets at long distances while remaining relatively inexpensive. Each drone reportedly costs around $35,000. In addition, a long range missile system known as PRS, capable of striking targets up to 500 kilometers away, is also being tested. The missile costs approximately $1.5 million.
The conflict has also seen the use of the F-35 stealth fighter jet, which is being deployed in combat for the first time despite being developed nearly two decades ago. Each F-35 aircraft costs around $80 million.
Additionally the US is reportedly using a new variant of the Tomahawk missile, valued at about $2 million per unit. Analysts describe the conflict as a contest between overwhelming US military power and Iran’s determination to endure.
