Special Eid trains will operate from Lahore, Karachi, and Quetta to handle the expected rush of passengers traveling home for the festival.
The government of Pakistan has announced four public holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr while Pakistan Railways plans to operate four special trains to handle the surge in holiday travel.
According to railway officials, the first special train will depart from Lahore to Karachi on March 16. The second service will run from Quetta to Rawalpindi on March 17. On the same day, another train will travel from Karachi to Peshawar, while the fourth special train from Karachi to Lahore will depart on March 18.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said the additional services are aimed at facilitating passengers traveling to their hometowns during the festive period. Authorities expect a significant increase in bookings as families prepare to celebrate Eid together.
Meanwhile, the federal government has declared four consecutive holidays from Friday to Monday for Eid-ul-Fitr, allowing citizens extended time for celebrations.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department and Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, Ramadan is likely to complete 30 days this year, making March 21 a strong expected date for Eid. However, the final decision will be taken by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will meet on March 19 to sight the Shawwal moon.
Officials say the Eid travel arrangements are part of efforts to ensure safer and more convenient transportation during one of the busiest travel periods in the country.
