Afghanistan’s foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has stated that Afghanistan, as a neighbouring country, prefers resolving issues with Pakistan through dialogue and mutual understanding.

According to a statement issued by the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Muttaqi held a telephone conversation with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which bilateral relations, regional developments, and recent Afghanistan-Pakistan issues were discussed.

The statement added that the Afghan foreign minister thanked the United Arab Emirates for its successful mediation in the release of an American prisoner and expressed willingness to resolve outstanding matters through diplomatic channels.

Muttaqi also commented on broader regional tensions, condemning the escalation of conflict involving Iran and stating that such developments pose serious risks to regional stability. He appreciated the UAE’s role in maintaining restraint and diplomatic balance.

Regarding Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, he emphasized that Afghan territory would not be allowed to be used against Pakistan and claimed that necessary measures had already been taken in this regard. He also said Afghanistan reserves the right to defend itself in case of aggression.

The UAE foreign minister noted that tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan serve no one’s interests and reaffirmed continued efforts to support peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue.
