Amy Madigan Wins First Oscar for Weapons Nearly 40 Years After Last Nomination

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Amy Madigan makes history with her first Academy Award win, decades after her last nomination.

LOS ANGELES: Actor Amy Madigan claimed her first Academy Award on Sunday night, taking home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Aunt Gladys in the horror hit Weapons.

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre saw Madigan’s long-awaited win, nearly four decades after her previous nomination for Twice in a Lifetime in 1985. Her victory early in the show quickly became a standout moment.

In her humorous acceptance speech, Madigan joked about preparing for the occasion. “I was in the shower last night trying to think of something to say as I was shaving my legs, and I went, I got pants on,” she quipped.

Her performance had already earned critical acclaim, with wins at the Critics Choice and Screen Actors Guild Awards preceding the Oscars.

The ceremony also featured a Conan O’Brien comedy segment spoofing her character, with O’Brien in Aunt Gladys makeup being chased by children, echoing scenes from Weapons.

Madigan’s win marked a milestone for Marquette University, her alma mater, as she became its first graduate to win an acting Oscar. Fans and brands alike celebrated online, with Wendy’s jokingly congratulating her as “our Aunt” on X.

Madigan’s triumph was an early highlight of a star-studded Oscars night, cementing her legacy in Hollywood history.
