Information Minister Attaullah Tarar says his team is in contact with journalist Aslam Khokhar after Ehtisham ul Haq appealed for medical and financial assistance.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has assured journalist Aslam Khokhar of support, saying his team is in contact with the former Samaa TV reporter and will not leave him alone during his difficult circumstances.
Tarar made the assurance in response to a post on X by journalist Ehtisham ul Haq, who appealed to the relevent authorities and also tagged @TararAttaullah to take notice of Khokhar’s reported health and financial problems.
“My team is in contact with Aslam Khokhar. We will not leave him alone. We stand with him,” Tarar said in his response on X.
In his post on X, Haq shared a photograph of Khokhar and described him as a talented and energetic young journalist who had previously worked as an active reporter for Samaa TV.
Haq said Khokhar had earned recognition in the newsroom and field through his professional abilities, hard work and commitment to journalism.
However, he expressed concern over the journalist’s reported circumstances, saying unemployment, financial difficulties, uncertainty about the future and declining health had placed him in an extremely challenging situation.
Haq urged the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take immediate steps to address Khokhar’s situation, particularly by facilitating his medical treatment, providing financial assistance and helping him regain employment.
He also highlighted the responsibility of the state, media organizations and journalist bodies to ensure that media professionals have access to medical care, financial security and dignified employment.
“Journalism is not merely a profession but a responsibility,” Haq said, stressing that those who fulfil this responsibility also deserve institutional support and protection during difficult times.
His appeal specifically called for urgent intervention to help Khokhar overcome his reported financial and health challenges and return to professional life.
Tarar’s response indicated that his team was already in contact with the journalist and had assured him of its support. However, the minister did not provide details of any specific financial assistance, medical arrangements or employment opportunities in his public statement.
