Buyers Furious as Trump’s Gold Phone Vanishes After Millions Paid in Deposits

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

The Trump family’s ambitious “America-first” smartphone venture is facing mounting criticism after delivery delays, refund complaints, and allegations of misleading marketing triggered political and consumer backlash across the United States.

The gold-coloured T1 Phone, once promoted as a patriotic alternative to mainstream smartphones, has become the centre of growing controversy in the United States as hundreds of thousands of customers continue waiting for deliveries months after paying deposits.

The device was introduced in June 2025 at Trump Tower by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump under the banner of Trump Mobile. Marketed as a premium American-made smartphone designed to challenge giants like Apple and Samsung, the T1 Phone quickly attracted significant attention from Trump supporters and tech enthusiasts alike.

Customers were asked to pay a $100 deposit for the $499 handset, with initial promises that shipments would begin by late summer 2025. However, nearly a year later, no confirmed deliveries have been reported, fuelling anger among buyers and raising concerns over the legitimacy of the rollout.

Reports indicate that almost 600,000 people placed advance orders, generating an estimated $60 million in deposits. Despite the massive response, the company has not announced a revised launch schedule or provided detailed explanations regarding production delays.

The controversy deepened after Trump Mobile quietly removed statements from its website claiming the device would be fully manufactured in the United States. Technology analysts had already questioned whether the US possessed the large-scale manufacturing infrastructure required to produce smartphones domestically at competitive levels.

Speculation later emerged suggesting that production may instead be linked to China, directly contradicting the project’s original “America-first” branding strategy.

Online criticism intensified when users claimed promotional images of the T1 Phone appeared strikingly similar to existing Samsung models. Accessory brand Spigen also hinted at potential legal concerns after social media users alleged one of the company’s phone cases appeared in official promotional material with modified branding.

Consumer complaints have continued to grow in recent months. Investigative journalist Joseph Cox reported that his attempt to pre-order the device resulted in website malfunctions and inaccurate charges to his credit card. He later claimed additional unauthorised transactions appeared despite not approving further payments.

Numerous customers have also taken to social media to report delayed refunds, poor customer service responses, and confusion surrounding delivery timelines.

The issue has now entered the political arena. US Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia joined other lawmakers in urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether Trump Mobile engaged in deceptive advertising practices or misled consumers about manufacturing claims and shipping promises.

Despite the mounting criticism, Trump Mobile continues to market wireless subscription plans priced at $47.45 per month. Meanwhile, the T1 Phone — once promoted as a flagship symbol of patriotic American technology — remains unavailable to customers who already paid millions in deposits.
