China’s Acting Consul General in Karachi Feng Deheng says Beijing will deepen cooperation with Pakistan, while Sindh seeks expanded investment under CPEC 2.0.
KARACHI: China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Pakistan amid growing global uncertainty, with Acting Chinese Consul General in Karachi Feng Deheng saying Beijing will continue to deepen bilateral cooperation and translate agreements between the two countries into practical outcomes.
“Whatever happens in the world, we will strengthen our relations with Pakistan,” Feng said while addressing a reception in Karachi on Monday to mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
The event was attended by Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, diplomats, political figures, business leaders and representatives from various sectors.
Feng described Pakistan and China as neighbours, trusted friends and partners linked by decades of cooperation. He said bilateral relations were based on mutual trust, mutual support and shared interests, with both sides maintaining high-level political and security cooperation and coordinating on international issues.
He highlighted frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries in 2026, including visits by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China. According to Feng, those engagements produced new understandings and a roadmap for advancing the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.
CPEC 2.0 focus
Feng said the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was being advanced through an upgraded CPEC 2.0, with agriculture, industry and mining identified as key areas for cooperation.
He called for broader collaboration in these sectors as well as information technology, while emphasizing education, culture, science and technology exchanges. Pakistan’s CPEC Secretariat has similarly identified industrial development, agriculture, science and technology, mining, minerals and business-to-business cooperation among the priorities of CPEC 2.0.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said CPEC had contributed to Pakistan’s development through connectivity, energy, industrial development and infrastructure. He said Chinese investment and collaboration in Sindh were expanding across energy, ports and logistics, industry, agriculture, information technology, urban infrastructure, health care and education.
Shah said the Sindh government wanted to deepen cooperation in renewable energy, smart urban development, agricultural modernization, vocational training, digital transformation and industrial innovation, while maintaining an enabling environment for Chinese investment.
Regional cooperation highlighted
Feng also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic role in regional disputes and said China supported dialogue, consultation and political solutions to conflicts.
He said China sought to contribute to peace, stability and development amid international uncertainty, while highlighting President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal concerning the Middle East.
The Chinese diplomat also discussed China’s economic and technological development, citing progress in areas including artificial intelligence, green energy, quantum technology, space exploration, integrated circuits, medicines and humanoid robotics.
He said 2026 was significant for China as it marked the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the first year of implementation of its 15th Five-Year Plan.
For Pakistan and China, the Karachi gathering also highlighted the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Official Pakistani and Chinese sources have identified 2026 as the 75th anniversary year of bilateral diplomatic ties.
Feng said the two countries should build on their longstanding cooperation by expanding economic, technological, cultural and educational links and ensuring that bilateral cooperation produces tangible benefits for their peoples.
