Nationwide cold conditions persist as air quality in Lahore hits hazardous levels
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast predominantly dry and cold weather across much of the country in the coming days, as continental air continues to dominate.
In Islamabad, the hill station of Murree, and the surrounding Galiyat region, residents can expect chilly mornings and cool nights with largely dry conditions. Cold weather is also predicted to persist in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, where temperatures remain low. Balochistan is set to experience similar cold and dry conditions, with no significant rainfall anticipated.
Meanwhile, Lahore’s air quality has deteriorated sharply, ranking the city second among the world’s most polluted urban centers on Tuesday. The city recorded an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of 225, categorizing it as “very unhealthy,” with Thokar Niaz Baig reporting an alarming AQI of 568.
Despite persistent smog, daytime temperatures in Lahore are slightly warmer, with the maximum expected to reach around 28 degrees Celsius. Authorities have urged vulnerable groups—including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory issues to minimize outdoor exposure amid hazardous pollution levels.
