Severe weather across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has killed seven people and injured 33 others, prompting emergency response efforts and renewed warnings of flooding and flash flood risks in northern Pakistan.
A powerful spell of storms swept across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 24 hours, leaving at least seven people dead and 33 injured as strong winds, lightning strikes, and heavy rainfall battered several districts, officials said.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the victims included two children, four men, and one woman. The fatalities and injuries were reported from Bannu, Shangla, and Mansehra, where severe weather triggered multiple emergencies.
Authorities said several homes collapsed under the impact of intense winds and heavy rain, trapping residents and causing casualties. Rescue and relief teams were immediately deployed to affected areas to support local administrations and assist victims.
The PDMA has launched damage assessment operations to determine the extent of losses. Officials are also strengthening preparedness measures as meteorologists warn that more rain is expected in northern parts of the province.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rainfall in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir, while most other parts of Pakistan are expected to remain hot and dry.
Earlier weather alerts had been issued for Swat, Upper Dir, Kohistan, Buner, and surrounding districts due to the risk of flooding and rain-related disasters. Authorities have also warned that rising temperatures after June 15 could accelerate snowmelt in northern regions, increasing the likelihood of flash floods.
