Major M-5 Motorway Shutdown Announced: Thousands of Travelers Face Delays as Key Section Closes

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Temporary closure between Iqbalabad and Guddu interchanges on June 15-16 will divert traffic to the N-5 Highway as authorities undertake vital electricity restoration work.

ISLAMABAD: Motorists planning to travel on the M-5 Motorway this week are being advised to prepare for significant delays as a key section of the route will be temporarily closed for essential power restoration and maintenance work.

According to officials, traffic movement between the Iqbalabad Interchange and Guddu Interchange will remain suspended on June 15 and 16 from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day. The closure is necessary to facilitate repair operations on high-transmission towers and electricity lines being carried out by Multan Electric Power Company.

To minimize disruption, authorities have arranged alternative routes. Vehicles traveling from Multan toward Sukkur will be diverted from the Iqbalabad Interchange to the N-5 National Highway. Similarly, motorists traveling from Sukkur to Multan will be redirected via the Guddu Interchange onto the N-5 Highway. Heavy transport vehicles will also be restricted from entering the motorway through the Rohri Toll Plaza during the closure period.

Officials estimate the diversion route will add approximately 148 kilometers to journeys. Light vehicles may experience delays of around two hours, while heavy transport vehicles could face travel times extended by up to three hours.

The motorway administration has advised travelers to allocate extra travel time, remain updated on traffic conditions, and review alternative routes before departure. A special traffic management plan will be enforced by the National Highways and Motorway Police to ensure smooth traffic flow and traveler safety.
