New Instagram update enables users to correct and refine comments shortly after posting, addressing long-standing demand for better editing control.
RAWALPINDI: Instagram has introduced a new feature allowing users to edit their comments within 15 minutes of posting, marking a significant update aimed at improving user control and reducing errors in online interactions.
The Meta-owned social media platform confirmed that the feature is being rolled out gradually across global markets. The update addresses a long-standing request from users who have sought the ability to correct typing mistakes or refine their messages after publishing comments on posts.
Under the new system, users can tap an “Edit” option beneath their comment and modify the text within a 15-minute window. Once changes are made, the updated comment is saved instantly, allowing multiple edits within the time limit. However, only text can be modified, while media attachments remain unchangeable.
Edited comments will display a subtle “Edited” label in grey to maintain transparency and inform other users that changes have been made. The company stated that the original version of a comment will not be visible after editing, focusing instead on streamlined user experience.
The feature builds on earlier editing capabilities introduced for post captions in 2014, expanding flexibility across more areas of the platform. The rollout reflects Meta’s ongoing effort to enhance usability and reduce friction in everyday communication.
Industry observers note that the update may improve engagement quality by reducing accidental misinformation and correcting informal typing errors more efficiently.
