Iran’s interior minister visited Pakistan’s National Emergencies Operation Center, where both countries emphasized closer cooperation on disaster management, early warning systems, and climate resilience.
ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni led a high-level delegation to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), where officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and climate resilience.
The Iranian delegation, which included Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam and other senior officials, was accompanied by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry. NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik welcomed the delegation at the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC).
During the visit, NDMA officials briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s modern disaster management framework, advanced early warning mechanisms, emergency response capabilities, and strategies for mitigating the impact of natural disasters. The delegation also received a detailed presentation on disaster risks expected to affect Pakistan and neighboring countries during 2026, along with the effective use of national resources for emergency response.
Chairman Malik highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional cooperation and exchanging expertise between Pakistan and Iran, particularly in disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness. He emphasized that regional collaboration is essential to improving resilience against increasingly frequent natural disasters and climate-related challenges.
The Iranian delegation praised Pakistan’s National Emergencies Operation Center and its technology-driven disaster management model. Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni commended NDMA’s progress in disaster preparedness and risk mitigation, describing its approach as a valuable example for the region.
Momeni also expressed Iran’s strong interest in learning from Pakistan’s experience in early warning systems, disaster preparedness strategies, institutional coordination, and the use of advanced technologies in emergency management. He said that greater cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two neighboring countries would enhance regional capacity to respond to natural disasters.
