Political leaders highlighted provincial autonomy, security concerns, FATA integration challenges, and inter-provincial disputes during a key meeting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PESHAWAR: Senior political figures underscored the need for provincial autonomy, improved governance, and resolution of long-standing administrative issues during a significant political meeting attended by provincial leadership.
Speaking on the occasion, Anwar Zeb Khan welcomed Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and his team, stating that consensus had been achieved on several important matters, including issues related to the NFC Award. Participants reportedly agreed that provincial autonomy should be protected and that the people of each province are the rightful owners of their natural resources.
Concerns were also raised about the security situation in southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where speakers claimed the government’s writ had weakened and armed groups remained active. Calls were made for the provincial assembly to pass the Madaris Protection Law.
The discussion further focused on the merger of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), with leaders arguing that despite the 2017 merger, several financial obligations and administrative arrangements remain incomplete.
Another major issue highlighted was the restriction on wheat transportation from Punjab. Participants described the move as unconstitutional and questioned why wheat supplies remained restricted despite the closure of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Meanwhile, Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterated opposition to the recent Gilgit-Baltistan elections, saying there was agreement among participants on the matter.
