Fresh cross-border shelling from Afghanistan injures five civilians, including children, raising renewed concerns over safety along the volatile Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Panic and chaos gripped border communities near Angoor Adda after a mortar shell fired from across the Afghan border struck a civilian home, injuring five members of the same family, including three children, officials and residents said.
According to details, the incident occurred on April 28, 2026, when a mortar round landed on the house of local residents Karim Khan and Rehmatullah in a village adjacent to the Angoor Adda border area. The explosion caused severe injuries and widespread fear among nearby population.
Medical Officer Dr. Ashfaq confirmed that five injured individuals, including three children suffering from blast injuries, were brought to the hospital. “The children were immediately admitted and are under close observation, with full medical care being provided,” he said.
He added that one patient sustained a fracture and required stabilization of the elbow joint using a back slab. The condition of all injured children remains under monitoring, though no immediate fatalities were reported.
Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment of impact. Noor Ali, one of the affected residents, said the shell hit without warning. “There was a massive explosion, and suddenly there were screams everywhere,” he recalled.
Another resident said the intensity of the blast shook the entire house. “It all happened so quickly—we didn’t even get a chance to understand what was going on,” he said.
Local residents expressed serious concern over repeated cross-border shelling incidents, emphasizing that civilians—particularly children—continue to bear the brunt of escalating tensions. They warned that the persistent attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty in the region.
Officials noted that similar incidents of firing and shelling from across the border have been reported in the past, often resulting in civilian casualties and damage to property, underscoring the fragile security situation along the Pak-Afghan border.
