Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to review moon sighting reports nationwide while authorities strengthen security measures for Muharram observances.
LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to enter the sacred month of Muharram-ul-Haram as the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee prepares to hold a crucial moon sighting meeting in Lahore on June 15, while law enforcement agencies in Islamabad have finalized extensive security arrangements to ensure peaceful religious observances across the federal capital.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene at the historic Badshahi Mosque on the evening of June 15 to determine the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram. The meeting will be chaired by the committee’s leadership, which will evaluate moon sighting testimonies and meteorological information received from across the country.
Simultaneously, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will hold meetings at their respective headquarters to collect local reports regarding the sighting of the new moon. The Islamabad zonal committee is scheduled to meet at the Kohsar Block of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
Following a comprehensive review of all evidence and testimonies, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will formally announce whether the Muharram moon has been sighted, determining the commencement of the Islamic New Year and the observance schedule for Muharram across Pakistan.
Meanwhile, authorities in Islamabad have intensified preparations for Muharram. A high-level security review meeting was chaired by SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza and attended by senior police officials, district administration representatives, procession organizers, and volunteers.
The meeting focused on evaluating security arrangements for majalis and religious processions, strengthening coordination among stakeholders, and ensuring effective crowd management throughout the holy month. Officials reviewed contingency plans and response mechanisms aimed at maintaining law and order during religious gatherings.
Addressing participants, SSP Operations Qazi Ali Raza said Islamabad Police would utilize all available resources to provide comprehensive security and facilitate citizens during Muharram. He emphasized that protecting lives and property remains the foremost priority and that there would be no compromise on security measures.
Officials also highlighted the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, religious organizers, volunteers, and the district administration. Enhanced vigilance, rapid response capabilities, and continuous coordination have been planned to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram in the federal capital.
