Multan Sultans Sold for Rs245 Crore, Rebranded as Rawalpindi Franchise
ISLAMABAD: (Yaseen Hashmi) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has successfully sold the Multan Sultans franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Rs245 crore, marking a significant development in the league’s expansion strategy.
During an auction held Monday, Wali Technologies acquired the franchise and announced plans to rebrand the team under the name Rawalpindi. The move will introduce Rawalpindi as a new franchise in the PSL, further broadening the tournament’s geographic and commercial reach.
PCB officials confirmed that the sale of Multan Sultans, along with the earlier sales of Hyderabad and Sialkot franchises, has generated a combined annual franchise fee of Rs645 crore. The Hyderabad franchise was sold for Rs175 crore, while the Sialkot team was acquired for Rs185 crore in previous bidding rounds.
According to PCB authorities, the addition of new franchises reflects growing investor confidence in the PSL and is expected to strengthen the league’s financial position and competitive structure. Officials said expanding the number of teams will also create new opportunities for domestic players and increase fan engagement across multiple cities.
The PSL, launched in 2016, has steadily grown into one of the most popular T20 leagues in the region, attracting international players, sponsors, and a broad television audience.
