Pakistan and the United Nations explored stronger collaboration on climate resilience, disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and humanitarian assistance during a high-level meeting in Islamabad.
Pakistan and the United Nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on climate resilience and humanitarian response during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Malik, met with Mohamed Yahya, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator. Representatives from the United Nations Development Programme also attended the meeting.
The minister congratulated Mohamed Yahya on his appointment and praised his previous contributions as the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, acknowledging his continued support for the country.
During the discussion, Musadik Malik emphasized that the UN’s humanitarian work remains one of its most vital global responsibilities. He commended the organization’s efforts in responding to natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and the growing challenges posed by climate change.
Both sides explored opportunities to expand collaboration between Pakistan’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the United Nations. Discussions focused on climate resilience, disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and humanitarian assistance through joint initiatives.
