ABU DHABI: A Pakistani national was killed after debris from an intercepted missile fell in the Bani Yas area of Abu Dhabi, officials said, underscoring the lingering dangers of aerial interceptions in the Gulf.
The incident occurred when air defense systems successfully intercepted a ballistic missile, according to a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office cited by AFP. However, falling shrapnel struck a residential area, resulting in the fatality.
Authorities confirmed the death but did not immediately release the identity of the victim or further details. Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene, while officials have yet to clarify whether others were injured or if significant property damage occurred.
The latest casualty brings the total number of deaths linked to recent attacks in the United Arab Emirates to seven, including three Pakistani nationals. Two of the Pakistani victims were killed in Abu Dhabi, while another died in Dubai.
The incident highlights a growing concern: even when missile threats are neutralized midair, falling debris can pose serious risks to civilians on the ground.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions, as missile attacks and interceptions continue to raise security concerns across Gulf states, prompting increased vigilance and defensive measures.
