Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the government is providing petroleum relief to economically vulnerable and middle-class citizens amid difficult conditions.
NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday spoke by telephone with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and asked him to postpone the party’s planned sit-in in Islamabad.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister highlighted the government’s efforts to provide relief on petroleum products to economically vulnerable and middle-class segments of society during the prevailing difficult circumstances.
Shehbaz said the government would continue taking measures to provide relief to the public to the extent possible.
During the conversation, the prime minister urged the JI chief to defer the Islamabad sit-in.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman welcomed the prime minister’s proposal and said Jamaat-e-Islami was considering postponing the sit-in, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The two leaders also agreed to meet after the prime minister’s return from his visit and continue consultations on the matter.
The telephone conversation took place on Sept. 22, 2026, while the prime minister was in New York.
