Punjab Film City Announced in Lahore: A Major Leap for Pakistan’s Creative Economy

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

A 50-acre state-of-the-art media and production hub to transform Pakistan’s film, animation, gaming, and digital content industry

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the establishment of a 50-acre Punjab Film City within the Nawaz Sharif IT City in Lahore, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s creative and digital economy development.

The project is being described as the country’s first fully integrated end-to-end media production hub, designed to bring together film, television, animation, gaming, and digital media production under one modern facility.

According to official details, the Punjab Film City will feature advanced production studios, professional sound stages, high-end post-production laboratories, visual effects (VFX) facilities, and multiple purpose-built shooting sets. A central lake and scenic landscapes will also be developed to support diverse filming requirements and international-standard productions.

The project further includes a convention hall for international events, a dedicated media trade hub, and a film and music school aimed at training the next generation of filmmakers, animators, and digital creators.

Officials say the initiative is expected to generate thousands of employment opportunities across multiple sectors, including media production, IT, animation, and entertainment services. It is also aimed at reducing Pakistan’s dependence on foreign VFX and post-production services by building strong in-country capacity.

Industry observers view the project as a strategic step toward positioning Punjab as a regional hub for creative industries, particularly as global demand for digital content, gaming, and streaming production continues to rise.

The development will be executed in phases, with infrastructure rollout and facility construction expected to proceed gradually under a long-term master plan. Authorities believe the integration of Punjab Film City with Nawaz Sharif IT City will create a powerful ecosystem connecting technology, media, and creative entrepreneurship.

Once operational, the hub is expected to attract both local and international productions, potentially boosting foreign investment and strengthening Pakistan’s soft power through global media exports.
