Punjab Students May Get Surprise Early Holidays as Heatwave Triggers Emergency Talks

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Punjab authorities are reviewing an early summer vacation plan as dangerous heatwave conditions, Eid ul Adha holidays, and academic concerns force officials to reconsider the province’s school calendar.

Punjab’s education authorities are considering announcing summer vacations earlier than expected as a severe heatwave tightens its grip across the province, raising concerns about student safety and classroom conditions.

Officials are currently reviewing a proposal to begin summer holidays from May 27 instead of the previously anticipated June 1 schedule. The discussions come after fresh alerts from the Punjab Disaster Management Authority warned that temperatures between May and July could remain dangerously high in several districts.

The possible change has sparked widespread attention among parents, students, and school administrations, especially as many educational institutions continue operating under intense weather conditions. Teachers and students in multiple cities have already reported difficulties in maintaining normal classroom activity due to extreme heat and power outages.

Authorities are also considering the overlap with Eid ul Adha holidays, which are expected to fall between May 27 and May 29. Since May 30 and 31 coincide with the weekend, officials believe merging the religious holidays with summer vacations could provide a practical and safer solution for schools across Punjab.

Despite growing speculation, the government has not yet issued an official notification regarding the revised vacation schedule. Education department officials say consultations are still underway and the final decision will depend on updated weather forecasts and administrative recommendations.

At the same time, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has proposed broader reforms to the academic calendar. The proposal includes reducing the duration of summer and winter vacations while increasing annual school days from 180 to 190 in an effort to compensate for academic losses faced by students in recent years.

Meanwhile, private school associations have suggested allowing optional summer camps during the holidays. Under the proposal, schools would conduct limited morning classes from 7am to 10am to avoid peak daytime temperatures while continuing selected academic and extracurricular activities.

The expected announcement regarding summer vacations is likely to impact millions of students and parents across Punjab, with many now waiting anxiously for the government’s final decision as temperatures continue to rise.
