A speeding vehicle carrying a family from Lahore to Swat collided with a Motorway Police vehicle near Katlang, leaving a police officer and a toddler dead.
A tragic traffic accident on the Swat Expressway near Katlang claimed the life of a Motorway Police sub-inspector and a one-and-a-half-year-old child, while several others sustained injuries, officials said.
According to initial reports, Sub-Inspector Nizamuddin and Sub-Inspector Akbar Ali were performing routine speed enforcement duties when a speeding vehicle crashed into a Motorway Police vehicle. The impact of the collision proved fatal, resulting in the martyrdom of Sub-Inspector Nizamuddin.
Sub-Inspector Akbar Ali and a Fine Collection official were injured in the accident and were immediately shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for treatment. Hospital sources said both injured officials are receiving medical care.
The vehicle involved in the crash was carrying a family traveling from Lahore to Swat. A one-and-a-half-year-old girl who was accompanying the family lost her life in the accident. A man, a woman and another child traveling in the vehicle were also injured.
Rescue teams promptly reached the scene and shifted all injured individuals to Mardan Medical Complex for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident allegedly occurred due to the driver’s negligence, reckless driving and overspeeding. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and adherence to traffic regulations on major highways and expressways, with officials urging motorists to observe speed limits and drive responsibly to prevent such tragedies.
