CDA says the Shaheen Chowk sculpture was deliberately lowered for maintenance and installation of additional artistic elements, rejecting social media claims that it collapsed during recent storms.
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and some media outlets claiming that the Shaheen Chowk sculpture collapsed due to strong winds or a recent storm.
According to an official clarification, the sculpture was intentionally lowered to the ground using a crane as part of a planned maintenance process and to facilitate the installation of additional artistic elements. The authority said the monument remains completely intact and has been placed safely on the ground.
The CDA explained that work at a height of approximately 25 feet during extreme summer temperatures poses significant safety risks for technical staff. The company responsible for constructing the sculpture decided to complete the remaining work at ground level to ensure worker safety, maintain a secure working environment, and preserve the quality of the project.
The authority also stated that linking the project to alleged administrative negligence is inaccurate. It claimed that certain reports had presented the matter in a misleading manner.
The CDA urged media organizations and journalists to verify information before publication and requested that any reports or social media posts claiming the sculpture fell during a storm be corrected or removed to prevent the spread of misinformation.
