Defending champions Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the second semifinal of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup to secure a place in the final, ending Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the title decider.
Playing in Dubai, Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 130 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Sri Lanka successfully chased the target, reaching 131 for six in the 19th over.
Pakistan struggled to score freely against the Sri Lankan bowling attack during the early stages of the innings. The batters adopted a cautious approach but found it difficult to accelerate as the innings progressed.
Captain Fatima Sana led the way with a responsible unbeaten 47, helping Pakistan reach a competitive total. Shawal Zulfiqar contributed 24 runs, while Gul Feroza scored 21 as Pakistan set Sri Lanka a target of 131.
Sri Lanka also faced resistance during the chase as Pakistan’s bowlers claimed important wickets and attempted to put pressure on the defending champions.
However, Sri Lankan batters maintained their composure in the crucial stages. Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 36 runs, while Kavisha Dilhari added 33 to play key roles in the successful chase.
The Sri Lankan batters negotiated the Pakistani bowling attack carefully and continued to move towards the target despite losing wickets. They eventually completed the chase in the 19th over with four wickets remaining, booking their place in the final.
Fatima Sana was Pakistan’s standout performer with both bat and ball. After scoring an unbeaten 47, the captain returned with the ball to claim four wickets for 38 runs.
Despite Fatima Sana’s all-round contribution, Pakistan could not close out the semifinal. Sri Lanka produced the stronger performance at key moments to secure victory and advance to the title match.
The result sets up a final between India and Sri Lanka. The defending champions will enter the final aiming to retain their title, while India will look to claim the championship.
