PESHAWAR: A wave of grief and outrage swept across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after prominent religious scholar Maulana Idrees was martyred in an attack by unidentified assailants, prompting swift action from provincial police leadership.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, took immediate notice of the incident and directed authorities to expedite the investigation. He has formally sought a detailed report from the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Mardan, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
According to official statements, the IGP has issued strict directives to ensure the early arrest of those involved in what he described as a “heinous and brutal act.” Police have been instructed to utilize all available resources to trace the perpetrators and bring them to justice without delay.
Maulana Idrees, widely respected for his religious scholarship and national contributions, was remembered as a figure whose services would remain “unforgettable.” The IGP emphasized that his sacrifices for the community and country would be honored and remembered for years to come.
Authorities have reassured the bereaved family that the police stand in full solidarity during this difficult time. “We share in the grief of the family and will ensure justice is served,” the IGP stated, reiterating the department’s commitment to accountability.
