A major counterterrorism operation conducted by Pakistan’s security forces in the Shiva area of North Waziristan has successfully concluded after intense action against militants linked to FAK, according to security sources. The operation reportedly resulted in the killing of 30 militants, while multiple underground hideouts and base camps were destroyed during the offensive.
The operation began on the night of May 17 and involved a coordinated deployment of Special Forces, helicopter units, snipers, unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs), and mechanized units. Security officials described the mission as one of the most comprehensive anti-terror actions carried out in the region in recent months.
Sources said the security forces took custody of 13 militant bodies during the clearance phase of the operation. Surveillance and monitoring teams later identified several more bodies scattered across the mountainous terrain. Reports also suggested that some militants were swept away by sudden flash floods in the area during the operation.
Authorities stated that the militants’ operational infrastructure, including underground bunkers and fortified camps, was completely destroyed. The dismantling of these facilities is being viewed as a significant blow to militant activities in North Waziristan, a region that has long remained sensitive due to the presence of armed groups along the border areas.
The successful completion of the operation was followed by the safe withdrawal of participating forces from the area. Security officials have not yet released details regarding casualties on the side of the armed forces.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in counterterrorism operations in recent months as security forces continue efforts to eliminate militant networks and restore stability in volatile regions, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Analysts believe such operations are aimed at preventing cross-border militancy and disrupting terror financing and logistics channels.
