Tens of thousands of personnel deployed to safeguard markets, mosques, and Eid gatherings amid elevated threat concerns
Authorities in Punjab and Peshawar have intensified security measures ahead of Chand Raat, Jumuat-ul-Wida, and Eidul Fitr, deploying tens of thousands of police personnel to ensure public safety amid heightened threat concerns.
Punjab Inspector General Abdul Karim announced a province-wide high alert, with over 17,000 officers assigned to markets and key public areas for Chand Raat. In Lahore alone, 5,000 personnel are on duty, while 10,000 will be deployed for Eid. Across the province, more than 47,000 officers will secure over 29,000 Eid congregations.
Police, supported by the Special Branch and Counter-Terrorism Department, have been directed to monitor suspicious activity closely. Security has been strengthened at border checkpoints, major entry routes, sensitive installations, and places of worship. Over 83,000 personnel and volunteers have been deployed to guard more than 32,500 mosques and imambargahs, with increased patrolling and CCTV surveillance in place.
In Peshawar, over 5,000 officers have been assigned under a comprehensive Eid security plan. Bomb disposal teams will sweep mosques and Eidgahs before prayers, while plainclothes officers monitor crowded areas. Authorities are also utilizing drone surveillance, sniffer dogs, and mounted units to enhance vigilance.
Officials urged citizens to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure peaceful observance of the final days of Ramazan and the Eid celebrations.
