British-Pakistani boxer Laura Akram has secured a landmark achievement for Pakistan by guaranteeing the country’s first-ever world-level medal in elite women’s boxing after advancing to the semifinals of the World Boxing Challenge.

Competing at the prestigious tournament held during the Grand Prix Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic, Laura delivered a commanding performance in the quarterfinals. The 39-year-old outclassed Palestine’s Noura Salman with a unanimous 5-0 decision in the 57kg category, securing her place on the podium.

Under Olympic-style boxing rules, all semifinalists are awarded bronze medals, ensuring Laura’s place in history regardless of her final result. Laura, who began representing Pakistan internationally in 2023, will now face Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai in the semifinal. A win would propel her into the final, where she will compete for gold or silver.
