Local residents highlight shortages, sanitation concerns and lack of medical facilities as officials pledge immediate and long-term reforms.
South Waziristan Lower: The District Headquarters Hospital Wana hosted an open court on Monday under the Health Department to directly hear public grievances and address long-standing issues in the local healthcare system.
The session was attended by District Health Officer Dr. Adnan, Medical Superintendent Dr. Mahmood Jan of Sholam Hospital, Dr. Ruman and other health officials. Tribal elders, civil society members and a large number of local residents also participated and presented their concerns regarding medical services in the region.
During the proceedings, Dr. Adnan stated that funds had been approved for Basic Health Units in Shakai, Samarbagh, Spin Sultanzai and Toi Khola, assuring that upgraded medical facilities would soon be provided. He said these developments would significantly improve healthcare delivery at the local level.
Dr. Ruman emphasized that efforts were underway to further improve the quality of services at DHQ Hospital Wana, ensuring better treatment for patients and reducing complaints. Dr. Mahmood Jan added that most basic facilities at Sholam Hospital had already been restored and urged the public to utilize available services.
Residents raised key issues including shortage of staff, lack of medicines, poor sanitation, limited equipment and weak emergency response services. Some participants also stressed the need for modern medical machinery and improved emergency care systems.
Officials assured that all complaints would be addressed on a priority basis, with immediate issues resolved on the spot and complex matters forwarded to higher authorities for sustainable solutions. Tribal leaders welcomed the initiative and called for regular open courts to improve public access to healthcare governance.
