Hackers send money requests from PTI chairman’s account, prompting public warning and investigation.
ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has confirmed that his WhatsApp account has been hacked, resulting in unauthorized messages being sent to his contacts requesting financial assistance.
The PTI chairman stated that he lost control of his messaging account after suspicious activity was detected, adding that several individuals reached out to alert him about unusual money demands being circulated in his name. He clarified that he is not sending any such messages and warned that all financial requests originating from his number should be considered fraudulent.
According to party sources, the incident has been reported to relevant authorities, and efforts are underway to recover the compromised account. Cybersecurity teams are also investigating how hackers gained access and whether additional accounts or data were affected.
Barrister Gohar urged the public to remain cautious and avoid responding to any messages asking for money or sensitive information, stressing that verification is essential before taking any action. He further advised citizens to report suspicious activity to cybercrime units immediately.
Officials noted that such incidents have become increasingly common as hackers target high-profile personalities to exploit trust and gain access to their contact networks. These scams often lead to financial losses for unsuspecting recipients.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as recovery and investigation efforts progress.
